Wagner selected as county’s outstanding senior volunteer

The Jackson County Outstanding Senior Volunteers have been selected. Kenny Bargfrede and Carol Wagner have been recognized as the Outstanding Senior Volunteers for the County. They will be recognized at noon on Friday, July 29, at the Jackson County Fair, as part of Seniors Day. Free entertainment will be taking place throughout the day.

That afternoon, from 1:00-6:00 p.m., there will be free Carriage Rides at the front of the Senior Citizens Building at the Fairgrounds. The horses and carriage will be provided by Jerry and Gwen Fleace of Round Lake, MN.

Carol has a big heart and “wants the best that life can offer to everyone.” She gives of her time to help individuals in need as well as the many organizations that she is a member of. The Heron Lake Senior Citizens, Legion Auxiliary and Windom Lions all benefit from her volunteer time.

“I was very surprised,” Carol said when she found out that she had been selected as one of Jackson County’s Outstanding Senior Volunteers. “I didn’t have any idea that someone had nominated me. There are many people in our community that really deserve it.”

Many others, though, see Carol as one who deserves it. “Whenever she sees a need or an idea to improve our community, she does it!” reads her nomination form. “She doesn’t look for someone to do it. She takes the suggestion, researches it and grabs onto it and does it.”

With retirement, Carol and her husband Jerry had decided that they would have the time to do things for people and organizations in their community, and they do.
