James “Jim” Harold Garoutte, age 80, of Biscay, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota.
James Harold Garoutte was born on October 26, 1931, in Heron Lake, Minnesota. He was the son of Harold and Lena (Kuhnau) Garoutte. Jim was baptized as an infant, and later confirmed in his faith as a youth both at the Methodist Church in Heron Lake. He received his education in Heron Lake and was a graduate of the Heron Lake High School Class of 1950. Jim entered active military service in the United States Navy on August 17, 1951, and served his country during the Korean War. He received an Honorable Discharge on August 12, 1955. After discharged from the Navy, Jim attended the School of Aeronautic in Oklahoma and received his AED license.
On April 20, 1963, Jim was united in marriage to Mary Elder, at Brownton Methodist Church in Brownton, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with five children, Sherri, Christine, Genise, Jenifer and Cory. Jim and Mary resided in Biscay, Minnesota for 49 years. They shared 49 years of marriage.
Jim was employed at the 3M Company in Hutchinson, Minnesota in the Maintenance Department for 31 years. He retired in December 1990. Jim was a member of St. Johns Church in Hassan Valley Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. He was also a member of the McLeod Master Gardener Club, Hutchinson American Legion Post #96, the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) in Glencoe, Minnesota and belonged to the Good Sam's Club.
Jim enjoyed woodworking and camping. He was a master gardener and loved the outdoors. Jim and Mary traveled across the United States. Jim liked music, singing, eating good food and making homemade noodles. Jim especially cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.
Jim passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota, at the age of 80 years.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, August 18, 2012, at 11:00 A.M., at St. Johns Church in Hassan Valley Township, McLeod County, Minnesota with interment in the church cemetery. Clergy Officiating: Pastor Robert Taylor. Military Honors provided by Hutchinson Memorial Rifle Squad. |
