The Prairie Ecology Bus Center (PEBC) will be hosting an Invasive Species Workshop on August 1, 2012, from 9:00am to 3:00pm at the PEBC office located in Spark County Park in Lakefield. This event is made possible through a Cooperative Weed Management Area grant funded by Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources. The workshop is intended for weed inspectors, government agency personnel, nonprofit organizations, public utilities, transportation departments, landowners, school districts, community members and any other persons interested in the control of invasive species. The Invasive Species Workshop will start at 9:00 a.m. with a classroom session devoted to Weed Identification, Replacement Species, and Weed Management Methods. Educators include Rich Perrine, Martin County Soil and Water Conservation District, and Randy Schindle with MN Department of Natural Resources. The morning session will be followed by a break for lunch. The interactive afternoon session is devoted to hands-on weed management efforts and will kick-off with demonstrations of weed control methods. Weather permitting, attendees and workshop personnel will have the opportunity to assist in invasive weed species removal at Sparks Park. Dress appropriately. There is no cost to attend the workshop, but pre-registration is necessary for a lunch count. RSVP by July 25. Contact: PEBC at 507-662-5064.
