The Heron Lake Mites and Midgets youth baseball teams traveled to Okabena last Friday afternoon (July 6) and came home with a trio of victories to continue a successful season in the Four-Star League.
The Heron Lake Little Mites started the day with an exciting 5-1 victory in extra innings, scoring four runs in the top of the sixth to improve their record to 6-1. Hobie Hedquist (three innings, four strikeouts), Eli Fest (two innings, six strikeouts) and Tyson Dirks (one inning, two strikeouts) shared the pitching chores for Heron Lake.
Fest (walk) and Dylan Hattendorf each cracked a key RBI single, while Hedquist and Dirks both smacked a base hit. Zach Haberman (two walks), Carlos Juarez (two runs scored) and Ryan Fauglid (run scored) all drew a bases-loaded walk to drive in a run, as well.
Tyson Cotter and Preston Katona each walked and scored a run for Heron Lake, while Jordan Ruvalcaba coaxed a pair of walks. Adrian Haberman and Jaydin Dirks each walked once to round out the offensive highlights for Heron Lake.
Heron Lake won the Big Mites game by a final score of 5-2 to improve its record to 6-1, as Ethan Becker (three innings, five strikeouts) and Jacob Burdick (two innings, four strikeouts) effectively handled the pitching duties.
