According to the National Weather Service website from Sioux Falls, wind estimated between 60 and 80 miles per hour were recorded on Saturday, July 16. Trees and power lines were knocked down, and some damaging hail fell in the area. At the Mark and Stacie Soleta home, south of Okabena, the Husky Hog Wash was severely damaged. “We think it was a tornado tail,” explained Mark as he was working on the clean-up on Monday morning. The storm blew through the area around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday night. The roof over the wash bays was torn apart, however, the roof over the office portion of the Hog Wash was only slightly damaged. One of the hog barns on the Soleta farm also suffered minor damage, as a small portion of the roof was torn off. A large section of roof from the Hog Wash building was blown onto the hog barn. Luckily, no damage occurred to the Soleta home where the family had been in the basement. Some fields in the area received hail damage, and several large trees and branches were blown down as well.
