If you have traveled Highway 35 through Rushmore or I-90 by Rushmore chances are you have seen the water tower sitting on the ground just west of town waiting to be raised up. The tower project was started last summer by Lincoln Pipestone Rural Water (LPRW). Work on the welding went into early January and the painting was completed earlier this spring. Weather conditions were the biggest factor in finishing the tower. The tank was raised to the top of the tower on Wednesday, June 30.
The new tower will serve LPRW customers in four townships, southwest Jackson County, southern Murray County, eastern Rock County and all of Nobles County. The 1,000,000 gallon capacity water tower was needed because of a purchase agreement LPRW entered into with Rural Water of Osceola enabling LPRW to purchase up to 1.2 million gallons of water a day. This will make it possible to hook up between 500-600 new customers to rural water. LPRW will be hooking up with Osceola Rural water just south of Round Lake and will be building a metering and pumping facility at that location.
Dennis Healy, CEO of Lincoln Pipestone Rural Water states, “this (tower) will meet Lincoln Pipestone Rural Water’s present and future needs because it will provide storage for the Lewis & Clark project in the future. If people are interested in getting service now is the time to act.” |
