The Nobles County Integration Collaborative came to Spafford, just south of Okabena on Thursday, June 24. Their goal was to teach kids and their parents everything they need to know about horses and taking care of them. The Gwen and Jerry Fleace farm was visited by two bus loads of students and their parents and friends. The kids were excited to ride on a buggy pulled by two horses the most. They got a ride all around the farm and even down the highway. While the rides were going on, other students were learning all about horses. They got the chance to touch horses, and even see where they sleep and eat in the barn. They even got the chance to feed a horse some hay. The students learned what horses like to eat and how much they eat a day. Corn oil is actually put on their food before they eat it. They got to see how to put a saddle on and learned why the saddle is an important part of riding a horse. All the people that attended this event had a fun time learning about horses and being able to enjoy a nice ride around the farm. Taking care of horses the right way is an important thing and now all these students will be able to care for a horse some day.
