The regular Okabena City Council meeting was called to order on June 21, 2010, by Mayor Kevin Nelson.
The project for electrical repairs at the ball field was explained by SSC employee, Brad Doherty. Being that the project will cost approximately $3,200 the school has requested donations to help pay some of the cost. After some discussion, a motion was made to have the City of Okabena, the Okabena Fire Department, and the Okabena Summer Recreation Program each donate $500 to SSC to help pay the electrical repairs at the ball park.
A request was made for a wedding/street dance on main street one of the last two weeks in August 2011. The Council approved but suggested that they get permission from Jackson County. Use of the park picnic tables will also be approved if a reservation date is given.
A Land Use Permit was reviewed and a number of questions addressed. After further discussion, a motion was made to approve the permit provided the project is done according to the required setbacks and proper drainage is complete.
The electrical work at one of the well houses is in process. The old unit has been torn out and a new fuse box and meter is installed.
The maintenance department has mowed one resident’s lawn. There was some discussion about increasing the fee for this work. The clerk will verify the current fees.
One additional estimate for the Water Tower repair was received from Utility Service for review. After some discussion, a motion was made to accept the contract from Maguire Iron to do the work on the Water Tower. In addition to the contracted work, the latch and screen issues will also be repaired.
The OMLS will have ads for the 4th of July put in the Tri County News and Livewire. We will also put information on the website if possible. Issues concerning the stage for the 4th of July and use of an additional fryer were discussed. The Beer Can Open will also be planned during the Labor Day Weekend. Getting the exhaust system steam cleaned by professionals has been approved.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Report was reviewed.
Two new Land Use Permits were presented to the Council for approval.
The Clerk had a number of items that were reviewed.
The next meeting will be held on July 19 at 7:00pm. |
